I'll add pictures. Trying to do this on an iPhone so all my pictures are to big. Anyways, I just started drawing manga or "attempting" to draw manga about 3 weeks ago now and I'd like advice on my drawings. Avoid saying "you suck" and please give me real advice also I was wondering. I been working on faces mostly. When do I move on to bodies. How do you know when your good enough to do that?

neilsugg.deviantart.com/there they are. I have never colored before nor is that a big part to what I am wanting to accomplish with my drawings. So more critics abouts the drawings themself is what I would like. And thank you

The faces in profile look good enough. The head, however needs to be a little wider. In your 'attempt at coloring' the neck is too thick. The eyes look good, but eyes are easy to do.
Other than that, I don't see any major problem aside from the bodies where you've allready mentioned you're no good at.

Not bad. I'm not an expert or anything, so I won't pretend to be. Most of the drawings look funny because of the proportions or the asymmetry. The one with the guy standing sideways is pretty good.
Something that helps me draw better proportions and just generally make the outcome look less estranged is to start off mapping everything out in light guidelines. It also helps me to just stop drawing and take a moment to get back and look at the drawing in its entirety. Just pick up the paper and ask yourself "Does this look right?"
I think that a big part of drawing well is being able to understand what makes something look right, and then doing it.

Okay so head wider. Got it. Neck thinner. Got it thank you and about asymmetry my biggest problem is this. I got mastering manga book so I have a grasp on what you mean by outlining figure.
My problem lies in the circle with lines. Make a circle, cut in half, than make the 3 lines. I never feel like I get those lines evenly spaced enough so I suffer from it. I am very new to this so it's hard to not get aggravated. I fight it because I know I'm still learning but still angers me none the less. I never feel like the lines I draw are spaced well. any tips there?
And one more thing that I have suffered from today is angles. I've yet to really dive in to doing them but a huge problem I have with then is eyes. I cannot turn other style eyes in to a profile angle. I really really need help with profile angle eyes. I wish his book covers it more. :/ I beg for help on that. How to do, different styles of it, anything really.

i mean, how you get there isnt important. You dont need to follow every step, the extra lines ther are to guide you. Really, the best thing you can do is map everything out lightly until it looks right and then go in.
Read some comics or manga, see how other artists do it. Also notice how angles and eyes and shadows look in real life and proportions to.
Good luck to you, pretty good for only having just started.

Ryan you need to keep in mind that your opinions are just that, opinions and need to state them as so. Saying someones How to book "sort of sucks" and suggesting another learning source can be percieved as not only rude but as fighting words when posted in a forum of a community centered around such a persons teachings.

Whether it's drunkenness, forgetting to log out and having a jerk roommate/sibling, or just being a jerk himself, Ryan has modappealed himself into a ban. I've deleted the last few abusive posts.

Sometime for 3/4 view of a face i begin by drawing a box with the right perspective using 2 point perpective .
After i draw inside the box so it's easier to see if someting is misplaced.

Was his ban some how my fault ? O.o and I've been sick for a few days and haven't been drawing. Has anyone taken lessons in drawing or art? I just wish learning was easier and I really like his book. it's missing something's is really want but otherwise it's helpful.

The art style from a manga I absolutely love is death note. In my eyes that is my preferred and favored style of drawing. I so wish I could draw like that. I'd give anything. Gosh but it's so detailed and well done.

His ban was 100% his doing.
I've taken all the drawing and art classes I could in school and found it didnt really teach me much except all the names for the different tools, none of which I use. For me the best way I could learn was getting with other artists and drawing together, teaching one another tricks and so on. Also I doodled ALOT. I spent more time doodleing in school then doing the school work. I also did tracing of styles I wanted to learn. Most say tracing is bad, and I agree, if you are to pass the work off as original. But I found that for me tracing s newly discovered style was the key to me learning to replicate the style in future works. That is how I learned manga style, which I have since distanced my self from. Deathnotes style is very appealing to most people, it does take a lot of skill and time to get to that point. if you just keep at it you will get there eventually.

What helped you guys learn to draw? Books? Classes? Recreating others mangas? Or just doodling ? In terms of drawing manga, I first started in 2011 after being inspired by my friend. From there, I discovered Mark's tutorial videos, and I would say they helped me get into it. After a while, I slowly spent less and less time watching them, and started to teach myself, i.e. studying famous mangas, particularly Bleach and Death Note. Even to this day, I take photos of my hands in certain poses and redraw and study them. I take graphics class in school, which is slightly different to art. There, I learnt stuff like 1 point perspective, 2 point, 3 point etc. I had to study anatomy and figures on my own. I'm still quite terrible, but I keep practising everyday. This is key if you really want to improve. One thing that I find common with beginners is that they always fire you with a barrage of questions for tips and hints that will help them become better faster. And the reality is, you don't become a professional artist overnight, or in one week. The best advice I can only find and offer is, practise makes perfect. P.S. I'm a HUGE fan of the Death Note art style

What helped you guys learn to draw?....
Watching tutorial videos can help for sure. But I think drawing complete "manga or comic" pages is what helped me most. By doing complete page we learn everything, from the background to characters ... expression scene composition speech bubble placement.
Trying to invent my own guidelines. Once a new guide line is invented it's easier to reproduce the same result.

Its safer to not post contact info in the open and too PM it to whom ever it is the communications is intended for. also SMSing will probably be expensive given the different locations people of this forum come from. I would think that this forums PMing features shoud be sufficient. but hey what to do I know.

True, I just have unlimited texts for in the US and if people add my Facebook I get on there often and it's private so I'll post it without worrying but I do agree for other people to be cautious if you have anything private to say. Www.facebook.com/neilsuggAnd do to guys wanna do collab drawings together or actually work a sort of story in to a signal page? Doesn't need to be over thought. Could be someone walking through a door and going to say hi I have a cool idea that, for example, I could make my character and you could make yours and than we draw each others in our style to see if they look different. Just for fun on that part also

My facebook is not that private and those emails are quite public too.
I like the idea of a short story that combine each of our characters.

Oh! I love these! Do count me in! If it's possible, I'll do my OC Connor Wakefield If that's okay with you guys. Even though he's a serious character, I wouldn't mind putting him in something like this.
