Here's a link to my gallery so far in deviant art. I ceased making art ten years ago, jus when I was developing a budding ability to make comics. So my stuff is a bit rusty. Much of this stuff has been experiments with media and simply seeing if I could make a coherent comic page. I'm most satisfied with the surfer kids one. I'm picking up where I left off ten years ago, in trying to make some sort of western comic art with a strong manga influence. I love anime and manga, but I tend to like a bit more realism. kokoroinc.deviantart.com/gallery/

Interesting. YOu have a pretty good handling on proportion. I see you are going for a more realistic style?

Although I grew up drawing manga and anime, I feel that I don't want to be fully doing a style. I'm learning from western comics, and may ink with a combination of brushes and pens. But I like the use of lines and subtle greys of manga. I'm sort of learning from the east and west and letting it develop. My proportions have improved, the hands I draw still look like twisted animal claws though. I also lean towards manga and anime in the sense that I'm not very much into the over the top action/superhero/ ultra ripped character thing. I love how with manga, even if it's action oriented, supernatural and what not, can still tell good character stories.

Me too, and I'm also impressed by the black and white style also. There's just something about it that I really like.

I'm finding that I need more than just the blacks and whites, I love the grey tones. I can't put a finger on it, but even though western comics have such a high level of detail, there's something I feel more in manga art. I'm trying to slowly lean towards the western graphic novel detail but have that emotional/character tone that manga and anime has. Maybe it's how the characters are done.
