Let's can it with the stereotype jokes. Especially since "I'm not a racist, but..." pretty much always prefaces something offensive.

I don't play any MMO's I feel they're generic, and whenever i do play one i feel like I'm doing work instead of playing a game.

Yeah, the grind was one of my worries going in too. But City of Heroes has enough variety to it (and the current crop of devs has gotten away from the "Gaming Should Be Hard Work" philosophy of the original team) that a year and a half in I don't find it generic or work. Mind you, a successful superhero MMO is going to have a LOT more variety to character design and abilities than pretty much any other kind of MMO. And while City of Heroes has player-vs-player as an option, it's confined to certain zones so you don't have to worry about griefers running around killing you when you're trying to do something. (Not to say there aren't jerk players out there, but there's a limit on how much they can mess up your day, and there's ways to play that insulate you from almost all of what they CAN do.)
BTW, if anyone here is interested in trying out City of Heroes, drop me a PM. I bought some box sets at Odd Lots last year before discovering I could only use each type of code once, so I've essentially got a free month I can give someone. And there's a referral thing that'd get both of us another free half month. That'd be enough time to decide if you want to drop $15/month to play regularly (although you wouldn't be able to access the newest "Going Rogue" content yet, it requires a paid upgrade right now).
---Dave, amused that a topic about how it's dead here is currently flagged as "hot" by the board.

yeah, thats another thing that got to me. $15.00 a month is a lot of money for me. (poor. >.<) but i do play a lot of emulators. (i won't go any further on that stuff cause some forums get in trouble about emulator stuff.) anyway if you want though I've played a few free MMO's such as ether saga. which i got to lvl 32 before quitting. ^^
