From Mark's facebook update of a few minutes ago:
"Just in case anyone's worrying, my wife's family lives very far away from the affected areas in Japan, so everyone's fine with them. Where I used to live and teach in Japan, Morika, is considerably closer, though not on the coast. Here's hoping the scale of the disaster is not at the level of the Kobe earthquake years back; my sense is that it won't be, at least not in terms of lives lost."
