Hey everybody I have been extremely busy over the past few months, and indeed alot has changed about my outlook on my future profession. I posted on the posts I missed, but would like to say some things.
I see a lot of you making the same mistake I did. "Oh I want to create a kick butt story and create an awesome manga/comic!" Then you proceed to go out and draw from your favorite manga/comic, or spend your money on how to draw manga/comic books.
I am sorry to say but this is not what you should be doing if you are serious about doing this as a career! Now you may look at my new work and say, well cn3wton you are free to have your own opinion, but your style seems to be more realistic. But thats not what my style is going to be about. This is what I have to say in return. You dont have a style if you can't draw like that from life!!! I see alot of kids in school that draw manga. And you can instantly recognize the art styles. I even when to a girl and go, hey is that someone from bleach? And she said "No its a character for my own story that I made". This is a problem guys.
You need to be able to look at someone in real life, in any position, and draw them in your "style". You can't say well Ill just draw him in profile or 3/4 or straight on and that will be fine. IT WONT.
I am going to give you some advice, and I am not claiming to be an expert. I dont consider myself and artist or illustrator. Because I have not reached the level of skill I desire. But these will help you get there.

Hes the creator of dinatopia and posts every day. Search for the drawing and painting stuff and be inspired! He released books that are just compilations of his blog. His stuff on lighting and obtaining reference and research is amazing.
If you want to buy a book, but drawing on the right side of the brain. It will change how you draw.
But the most important thing? Draw from life! Its a must. All of the best artists have sketchbooks that they sit down in and draw.
Feel free to follow your favorite artists and get inspired. But let your own style come about as you draw from life. Dont just copy someone elses. Becuase then its not yours anymore!
I will always appreciate manga. It was partly responsible for getting me back into drawing. As well as Mark Crilley. But I see far too many bad animes/mangas that just use sloppy styles or copies of styles that I just prefer to focus on my own work now.
I suggest you all do what Mark did. Appreciate it for what it is and incorporate it into your style and make it your own. People should be able to look at your stuff and go "I knew you drew that the moment you saw it." Thats when you have found your style.
