Mark's first big comic. It ran about 50 issues from Sirius and led to a Young Adult novel series with nine books out to date. It stars Akiko, a Japanese-American girl who goes on adventures mainly on the Planet Smoo, but also all over a crazy galaxy full of fantastic stuff. Not really done in a manga style, although the influence did creep in here and there (especially in the "Stranded in Nomura" arc)...so the answer to the question in General about how he got to be such a good manga artist would be "by becoming a really good comic artist first". ---Dave

Well, there hasn't been any new Akiko content lately (just a collection of older comics), so there's not going to be as much traffic in the "where can I find it" and "I just got it" variety. Mark's been focusing on Miki for the past year, although another Akiko novel is coming up this year IIRC.

It's Mr. Beeba, a character from Akiko, with his hand in front of his face. Akiko started as a comic, then turned into a series of (so far) nine young adult novels.
